It all starts with YOU

Hello runners! Since the race is about 2 months away, we don't have to get into the specifics about the race: What time is the race? Where is the race? Where do I park?... you get the point. You have plenty of time to figure out those minute details and some of my later blogs will be focused on updating you with all the race information you need and want to know!

This blog focuses mainly on motivating yourself to reach beyond your comfort zone and experience something brand new: whether that “brand new experience” is running your first half marathon, or setting a new personal record. I'm a runner (as you already know), so I go through the whole “having to motivate myself every day” type deal. After working 8 hours a day, I HAVE to go out and run even if it's raining or even if I'm completely exhausted for the day. Sometimes it's a drag, but it's all worth it. You may not feel up to it, but trust me, once you get going and finish, you'll feel much better that you didn't give in and decide skip your workout.

The reward of going out for a walk or run is so much better than if I would've taken the day off and snoozed on the couch while my hand reached out towards the salt and vinegar chips. I get the reward of being in shape and loving where I stand fitness wise and especially knowing I can consume hundreds and thousands more calories and not feel guilty about it because I worked out (that's the best part, right?).

Grab some family and friends and make a pact to race in the half marathon or the two-mile run in August. Meet up a couple times after work each day and find a stunning scenic trail that makes you forget you're working out. If anyone needs help finding trails, message me and I can give you tons of suggestions! I usually run in Marietta, Waterford, Vincent, or Belpre, Ohio. I find that the more running friends and the more scenic trails I know of, the better the experience and it's definitely not as dreadful. If you take these suggestions, this could have a domino effect on everything else you do throughout the day; you'll have more energy, you'll WANT to start eating healthy and enjoying that you don't have to cut carbs out of your diet because those are essential when you are staying active, and you can have major bragging rights on how far or how fast you ran/walked for the day.

The Parkersburg News and Sentinel races gives you the opportunity to better yourself as an all around individual and racer! It's easy to go home and say you'll accomplish a goal another day. I mean there's thousands of more days right? What's one or two days of slacking off going to make a difference? Well it DOES make a difference! Get in the habit of forcing yourself to run, walk, lift, or whatever exercise you love to do (yes, I sometimes count intense cleaning as an exercise). If you aren't sure where to start, just start slowly and build yourself up every week. We love the competitive atmosphere of the race, so let's make this one the fastest one yet!
