News and Sentinel Half Marathon

NO RUNNING OR JOGGING - One foot must remain on the ground AT ALL TIMES.

Monitors/walking judges will be on both the two-mile and half marathon courses. Disqualified walkers will be notified as they cross the finish line or soon thereafter. There will be no further explanation to the walker of any infraction by the Walk Coordinator or by any Monitors/Walking Judges.

Disqualified walkers will not be eligible for awards, and they will not be included in any race results.

The decision of the Walking Coordinator is final.

Are the roads closed?
Many of the streets are closed, however on main highways the course is separated from traffic by cones. Participants must stay on the right hand side of the road at all times except when directed by the Parkersburg Police Department. Stay on far right of pavement when not passing or jockeying for position. Some flow of vehicular traffic is necessary on some streets.

Are there check points?

You must pass each checkpoint (timing mat) along the course. Anyone failing to do so will automatically be disqualified.

Are there aids stations?
Yes. Water stops are located approximately every mile with water and Gatorade. They begin at the 1.8-mile mark. There are 17 total stops.

What if I get sick during the race?
Medical personnel are located along the course and at every water stop. First Aid and massage tents will be available in the Finish Area.

Yes, they are available at the Start Line, 3-mile, 6-mile, 8.5-mile and 11.5-mile marks, and at the finish line.

What happens at the finish line?

How long do I have to finish?
Course will close shortly after 11:30 a.m. Finish area will be left open as long as possible. After closing, all runners/walkers must move to the sidewalk and finish the course at their own risk. Homecoming Parade begins at 12 p.m. down Market Street.

For late finishers, a golf cart and bus will follow the race and assist anyone needing it or pick up anyone who cannot continue. Upon returning to the finish area, there will be a bus/van to take these late finishers back to their hotel, if needed.
