Important Race Weekend Information
August 13, 2012 - Corey Spanner
It's hard to believe that Race Day 2012 is almost here! We are just days away from this Saturday's Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon and Two Mile Race. Here are some important bits of information to make sure that you have the best Race Day experience yet:
First of all, if you have yet to register for this year's event, time is running out. Online registration closes on Wednesday at midnight. You can mail or drop off your registration to our office through Friday morning. You can always register for the races at our Runner's Expo, which takes place on Friday in the Parkersburg Municipal Building from 2-9 p.m. See our website for links to our online registration page and a printable entry form (link available to the right of this post). Please remember that there is NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.
Race day packets, including race bibs and t-shirts, can be picked up at the Runner's Expo on Friday at the Parkersburg Municipal Building (located at the end of Market Street, at One Government Square) from 2-9 p.m. You can also pick up your packet on Saturday morning from 6-7 a.m. in the same location.
If you're at Packet Pick Up on Friday evening, don't forget to stop by the pre-race pasta dinner at St. Francis Xavier Hall on Market Street, near the finish line. The pasta dinner is from 4:30-9 p.m. and is free to all Half Marathon participants (be prepared to show your race bib). Two Mile racers may purchase tickets at the dinner for just $3 by showing their race bibs. The price for family and friends is $7 for adults and $4 for children and can be paid at the door.
The starting line for both the Half Marathon and the Two Mile Race is at Third and Juliana streets, in front of the Towne Square Parking Garage entrance. The wheelchair start for the Half Marathon is at 7:50 a.m. on Saturday morning, and Half Marathon runners and walkers begin at 8 a.m. There are 17 water stops located along the course. The Two Mile Race begins at 8:10 a.m. The finish line for both races is at 6th and Market streets, at which point racers can relax and check out the Brooks Run Happy Cavalcade (see link at right). Snacks will be provided, as well as a variety of cold beverages provided by the RC, Snapple Group.
There is a post-race pizza luncheon on Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in St. Francis Xavier Hall, located near the finish line. Half Marathon and Two Mile participants receive free entry by showing their race bibs, and the fee for family and friends is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
