Tom's running career:

I have been running for about eight years. In that time I have completed 15 half marathons, five being the News and Sentinel Half Marathon. I set my personal record of 1:35:30 at the 2017 News and Sentinel Half Marathon, although I am going to break that this year.

Tom's motivation:

I want to get better, I want to beat yesterday. I want to be better than the middle of the pack. Some days you don't feel like it, you just have to do it anyway. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Advice from Tom:

If you're going to be serious, get a good pair of running shoes and build up slowly. At the beginning you are not going to be able to run 2-4-10 miles. That's okay. Build gradually. Slow is fine, quantity of miles is what it's all about. You're going to hurt, it's not going to be easy but you can do it. Also, listen to your body, rest days are important! We all have bad days, some days you won't feel it, some days you won't feel fast, it happens. Move on.
