PARKERSBURG-Registration has been slow for Sunday's Junior Race and Tiny Tot Trot according to race coordinator Amy Wallace.

"Right now we have 44 registered in the Junior Races and 49 in the Tiny Tot Trot," said Wallace during the committee's final meeting on Tuesday. "But, a lot of people usually wait until the last minute to enter."

Participants will have two more opportunities to enter Sunday's races, which begin at 1 p.m. at Stadium Field, open registration will take place from 2 until 9 p.m. on Friday at the Parkersburg Municipal Building-the site where race packets will be distributed-and from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at Stadium Field.

Area youths participate in the Junior Race and Tiny Tot Trot competitions last year at Stadium Field.

The Tiny Tot Trot is a short-distance race designed especially for children age 5 and under. To ensure the safety of the children, there will be races for each age group and gender.

The Junior Races are based on age, and the event will have age- and gender-based races for children ages 6-11. Junior races will follow the Tiny Tot Trot, which begins at 1 p.m.

All competitors in both races get a T-shirt and a medal. Distances are according to age 3 and under - 50 meters; 4 & 5 - 100 meters; 6 & 7 - 200 meters; 8 & 9 - 400 meters; and 10 & 11 - 400 meters.

"We strongly recommend that people plan on registering early," explained Kids Race director Marchell Allman. "We've had between 300 and 400 runners compete in this event every year."
