We got mail! Sign up today so we get more

July 20, 2016 - Art Smith

When you are a little kid you are always excited when you get something in the mail.

When you are a big kid, you still get excited, and lately we have been thrilled when a big stack of mail arrives for the half marathon.

We have put around 10,000 entries forms out in the community and they are starting to find their way home. So far around 500 people have registered to run in one of the races that makes up the News and Sentinel Races. Early registrations always favor the News and Sentinel Half Marathon, with close to 400 people already registered for the run or the walk.

To run a half marathon, most people have to train. Many like to register early to motivate themselves to do the extra miles to get ready for the race.

We give people multiple ways to register. You can register online - REGISTRATION OPTIONS  - or you can print your own entry form and bring or mail it to us. You can also pick up an entry form at locations all over the area.

The registrations we like best are the ones that walk into our office and proudly state, “I’d like to register for the half marathon.” It’s great to talk to the individuals that are making the commitment to do something that a few short months ago they may have felt they were incapable of doing. The corner of my desk is as good of a place as any to fill out the form. We might even offer some course tips while you work on the application.

It’s around this time that people start wondering if their friends are registered yet, or even if they have registered themselves. For that reason we start posting a list around this point in the summer so people can check. VIEW LIST.

The races are great community events that are enjoyable regardless of your ability. Most people cannot run a five-minute mile.  That’s OK, neither can we, and neither can most of the people that sign up for the two-mile race or half marathon. Sign up today and come on down on August 20 and see what everyone is talking about.
