After the Vienna training run last week I was glad to have milder temperatures for Monday evening’s 9 mile trek across the mighty Ohio River. The Ohio is truly a magnificent miracle of nature with a rich history. I recently read the Stephen Ambrose Book “Undaunted Courage” outlining the expeditionary adventures of Meriwether Lewis in his push west through our Valley. The River was not always the recreational and industrial vessel we know today. It was rough and merciless just like the Belpre Bridge proved to be for this heavyweight Monday night I was prepared for a painful jaunt, and was not disappointed. I maintained a 14 minute pace for the first 4.5 miles but was forced to walk on 3 occasions on the return trip. Thanks again to those volunteers at the water stops, the folk tunes in Belpre were a nice treat, and who doesn’t enjoy a freezer pop? I didn’t have much of an appetite Monday post run but I forced some fruit and a PBJ down which I am sure my body appreciated. I took a dip in the neighbors’ pool and the cool water felt wonderful! When I woke up Tuesday morning I was surprised that I felt as good as I did but I am still very sore in my joints. Healthy doses of Aleve and some rest will help. My training schedule is beginning to take a toll on my knees and my right ankle hurts daily. I am looking forward to a much needed vacation from not only training but work as well. My legs and joints need the rest. Overall I am pleased with my progress and race day cannot come fast enough. I plan on running the 4 mile race in Belpre on the 18th and continuing running 3 days each week. My mental outlook is much improved compared with last week & I really do appreciate all the continued support.
See ya on the road!
